The name "taxi" is clearly shortened from "taxicab", which is derived from the two words: "taximeter" as well as "cabriolet". The taximeter was developed in 1891 and is used to videotape distances and calculate the fare. Cabriolet refers to a horse drawn carriage where the chauffeur stands in the rear of the carriage
