A few other projects, such as Zephir, provide the capability for PHP expansions to be created in a top-level language as well as assembled into indigenous PHP expansions. Such a technique, rather than composing PHP expansions straight in C, simplifies the development of expansions and reduces the time required for shows and screening. PHP's single-request-per-script-execution version, and the fact the Zend Engine is an interpreter, causes inadequacy; as a result, different products have been developed to assist enhance PHP efficiency.
